Interview with the Nashville Voyager: Daily Inspiration: Meet Ross Jaynes
Today we’d like to introduce you to Ross Jaynes
Hi Ross, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My epic tale begins at my birth but really starts my senior year of high school, where I was invited (begged) to join a media class. Even though I was already working at a radio station at the time, I wasn’t fully in love with media. That class helped me realize my love for creation, art, and how much work goes into video production and media creation. My first ‘assignment’ sent me on a wild adventure involving, getting lost and getting to drive my car around the (at the time) new Nashville Superspeedway.
After college I made the choice to come back to my hometown, Columbia Tenneesee and take a job with Columbia Power and Water Systems eventually becoming the Creative Director and in charge of the local Channel 13. With my time at CPWS, I learned a ton of new media and media adjacent skills, including photography, marketing etc which led Channel 13 to win multiple national awards for our productions.
After my tenure at CPWS was complete I struck out on my own to open my own media company, then re-branded. to Visual Media Co in late 2020. Through Visual Media Co, I’ve become a multiple internationally published photographer and videographer, working with everyone from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies with my work being shown all over the world.
To forward even more of my artistic vision, in 2022 I started BlackNiteLight, which is an artistic initiative focusing on blacklight and neon artwork. In 2023, my work was recognized by Loupe Art, the leading visual art streaming service on Smart TVs and Digital Signage.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a journey, for sure. Running a business is difficult, and times have changed since I first started, When I began, everything was tape based and editing was virtually impossible. Now anyone with a cellphone can do what $10k of equipment used to do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work in video has been mainly expressed through TV and web series, including the national award winning Maury County Now where I was executive producer, director, and primary editor as well as The RIght Place with Kevin Sport which aired on RFD-TV where I was a producer and primary editor. Other video work has been more client based, focusing on videos for small businesses and large companies.
My photo work started as documenting my own work but quickly evolved into photographs of the Maury County Courthouse (photos featured internationally in the Rotary International Magazine, Forbes, National Watch and Clock Magazine and others) and event photography. In 2024, my photos were also picked up by Loupe Art, the leading visual art streaming service on Smart TVs and Digital Signage.
BlackNiteLight is an artistic initiative I started in 2022, focusing on physical and digital art based around blacklight and neon art. Through this art, I am on Loupe Art, the leading visual art streaming service on Smart TVs and Digital Signage as well as published many books featuring my artwork.
I am also a published author through Visual Media Co, writing THE QUICK AND DIRTY GUIDE TO PERSONAL AND SMALL BUSINESS BRANDING, a comprehensive and practical handbook that takes you on a journey to build and establish a strong brand for your small business.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
My industry continues to change and become more democratized. With attention becoming even more divided and more creators entering the scene everyday, it becomes harder and harder to be heard over all the noise.
